Cleaning Schedule
Happy Sunday! It's time to start off our week with a fresh household!
If you do a google search, holy moly, there are a TON of options and tips. I found this idea on Pinterest... well actually, several places. I pulled ideas from multiple pins, and I have tweaked my schedule a lot over the years. My whole concept is that if I have to go look at a list every single time I need to clean my house, then it's too complicated. I printed this schedule off and put it on my fridge. After a couple weeks, I didn't need to paper reminder anymore because I had it memorized.
Here is my simple cleaning schedule....
Daily:
Empty Dishwasher
One load of laundry
Clean off the kitchen counters
15-minute pickup at lunchtime & bedtime
Weekly:
Mondays - Bedrooms
Tuesdays - Bathrooms (i.e. - Tubs, Toilets, and Sinks Day)
Wednesdays - Wash Day
Thursday - Kitchen & Common Areas
Fridays - Floors
Saturdays - Outdoor Chores or Rest
Sundays - Rest

I am not a perfect housekeeper. My kids spill stuff, drag toys all over the house, and make a lot of messes. It's my job to teach them how to pick up after themselves, and with preschoolers that takes time. I try not to be too hard on myself, and you shouldn't either. We are not chasing after pinterest-perfect homes. I want my home to be clean, cozy, and inviting! I want the people that live here to love it and want to bring others to visit!
So, how do you do all that? What does your day of cleaning look like?
Well, in all honesty, it really doesnt take a whole day. It's usually 15 minutes to an hour each day.
On Mondays, we (me and the kiddos) walk through every bedroom in our house and clean whatever needs to be cleaned. Laundry on the floor? Put it in the correct place. Window sill dirty? Wipe it down. Toys all over the place? Put them in the toy boxes. Carpets need vacuumed? Do it! Windows splattered with little fingerprints? Wipe them down. Dust bunnies on a ceiling fan? Wipe those down too. Bedding need washed? Toss it in the washer. Then, move to the next bedroom. All in all, this takes us anywhere from 15 mins to 1 hour to go through all the bedrooms in our house.
Tuesdays - all the bathroom(s) surfaces get wiped down. Any clothes, towels, etc. all get taken to the laundry buckets. Toilet paper restocked.
Wednesdays - Wash day is our marathon laundry day. We attempt to do one load of laundry all the way through (wash > dry > fold/hang > put away) each day. That doesn't always happen. So on Wednesdays, we do ALL the dirty laundry in the house.
Thursdays - Kitchen & Common Areas... the main areas of our house are basically one big room that's open concept. (Kitchen, Dining Room, & Living Room). Anything that needs done in this main area gets complete... dishes, counter tops, tables wiped down, windows, mantle de-cluttered, books in bookcase, tv remotes in the basket, etc.
Fridays - Floors! All the floors get swept and mopped & carpets get vacuumed!
Saturday - Outdoor chores... This is mostly my husband's domain. He takes care of most of the outside stuff. Lawn-mowing/weedeating. I will sweep the porch if needed. We all (preschoolers included) pull weeds from the flowerbeds, etc. Hubby gets a sand-bucket out and we race to see how fast we can fill it. My kids think it's SO fun! Please, please, please let them still be saying that in 10 years. LOL!
Sunday - NO CHORES!
That's it! Pretty simple, only takes a few minutes each day, and our house stays pretty clean for the most-part!
