Review: Joey+Rory "Hymns That Are Important to Us"
WOW! Let me tell you, this CD is something special in my humble opinion! I purchased it two and a half weeks ago (about 4 days after it was released), and my family has listened to it on repeat, nonstop. My children have memorized the melodies and sing right along. I love Joey's versions of songs that I learned as a kid. Joey's spin on these traditional songs are more upbeat than I've ever heard them. She holds true to her country roots and breathes new life into old songs. The sweet melodies and acoustics are as smooth as honey, and Joey+Rory have done a fabulous job on this piece of work!
I purchased the Hymns That Are Important To Us deluxe edition from the Cracker Barrel Country Store, so it had a little bit of extras to it. It came in a booklet-style cover that chronicled their life story. I have followed them since the early days of their career, and it has been so fun to read their stories in their entirety! Rory has such an ability to articulate even the most difficult life situations in such a positive light, and I am sure that he would tell you that reason is that the words were God-breathed. I truly enjoyed reading through it.
Opening the album up was an experience in itself! Included with the booklet & cd was a magnet. I really love that they added this... when I opened it, it just felt so personal. Like a friend had given me a gift and tucked a little something extra inside. It serves as a sweet reminder every time I pass by my refrigerator.
If you have a cracker barrel close by, I highly recommend stopping by and picking up a copy... but you might hurry fast. Rory said in a recent blog post that the stores are having a hard time keeping them stocked up, and it's only been out for a couple weeks. If you don't have a cracker barrel close, you can still order the cd on their website. This work of art is worth far more than the $14.99 price tag, and I just know you will love it! We sure do!
Be blessed,
Kimberly
