Parenting Wisely

Parenting is hard. Let's just be honest. My personal belief is that it's difficult so that we will turn to God and trust Him to guide us. Often, wisdom comes with time, but there is much we can do now to gain wisdom when it comes to parenting. Being a wise parent is possible, and it's very doable. I am definitely not a perfect parent, but the more I learn and apply what I read in the bible, the more I am seeing positive outcomes with my children. They will always make mistakes and struggle with sin (we ALL do), but it's my responsibility to lovingly teach them the correct ways and help them grow in their own relationship with God. Motherhood truly is a ministry and there are many seeds to be planted as my children grow.

About 2 weeks ago, I attended a ladies night hosted by my church. The event was specifically for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, etc. - basically any woman that has a hand in raising children. Ginger Hubbard from Preparing the Way Ministries was our guest speaker, and she was so lovely! She is a southern gal with a sense of humor and she share a wealth of great tips! If you've ever read the book "Shepherding A Child's Heart" by Tedd Tripp, a lot of what Ginger shared correlates with that. Ginger was very open and honest as she shared lots of tips and a few lessons she learned learned along the way as she was raising her children.

My favorite thing that she shared the night of the event was the Wise Words for Moms resource. This little gem lists out many common issues children struggle with that she experienced with her children. There are questions to ask your child to get to the "heart" of the issue, and really get them thinking about what they did & why they did it. Then, there are scriptures for the reproof (what not to do), and then scriptures for the correction (what God wants you to do). I really like that she included multiple scriptures for each area. What I mostly love about this is that she took God's word and organized it for moms like me... women that know they want to base their parenting on scripture, but struggle to know exactly where to go in the bible to teach their children or address an issue. Now it's all in one place for you! That thing has been very handy around our house for the last couple weeks!

Some of Ginger's resources that I personally recommend are...

  • Wise Words for Moms

  • Ginger's Book - "Don't Make Me Count to Three" + the 6 week study guide

  • Ginger's DVD - Reaching the Heart of Your Child

  • CD - A Peaceful Home

Here is the link to GINGER'S STORE for those interested in purchasing any of her resources.

I want to encourage you as you travel this journey too! There are many great resources out there, but the bible really is the best resource! God's Word tells us all we need to know, we just need to listen to it.

Be blessed,

Kimberly
