The Giving Plate...

Have you ever heard of the giving plate?
This idea was shared with me several years ago at one of my MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meetings, and it has become a fun tradition in our family. It has been so fun!
The premise behind that plate is that you fill it with treats to give to someone (like a new neighbor or a friend with a new baby, etc). After they have eaten their treats, they are to fill up the plate with something, and then pass it on to someone else... sort of like a Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants kind of thing, but with food and a cute dish! I have done this a few times, and it's been really fun, both for me and the receivers... who then got to became givers!
How to create your own Giving Plate...
Supplies Needed:
Ceramic Plate (i get mine cheap at the Dollar Tree.)
Sharpie Marker (preferably a black sharpie, as some of the other colors change when baked)
Rubbing Alcohol & Cotton balls / q-tips (for mess-ups)
Copy of the giving plate poem
Assembly:
Step 1: Wash your dish & allow it to dry thoroughly
Step 2: Using the sharpie, write the Giving Plate Poem on the dish. Be creative! Do a fun pattern. The swirl pattern & daisy bloom that I did was super simple and gave it a little flair.
Step 3: Bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes. You want to put your plate in before you heat the over up so that it heats slowly and cools slowly. This will reduce the risk of your plate cracking or shattering.
Reminder! This is a hand-wash only dish, so I encourage you to write that on the back of the plate with your sharpie as well.
Giving Plate Poem:
This plate will have no owner for its journey NEVER ends.
It travels in a circle of our family & friends.
It carries love from home to home for everyone to share.
The food that's placed upon it was made with love & care.
So please enjoy what's on this plate and fill it up again.
Then pass along the love it holds with your family & friends.
There you have it! I want to encourage you this week to create a giving plate, and post a photo on the special thread on my Facebook wall! One lucky commenter will be chosen to win a giveaway!
