Fall Vignette

Today, I'm transitioning my island decor from Spring/Summer to Fall/Winter! I know it's not quite the first day of fall, and our weather is still hanging around 85-degrees... BUT.... I live in the south and it's been hot since March. I'm over it. Hah! Seriously though, it's August, but I'm feeling like October so it's time to seasonally decorate!

My decorating style is pretty simple. I like classic styles, meaning, I gravitate toward things that will stand the test of time. The base of my home color scheme is cream, gray, and robin's egg blue. The majority of my decor is year-round and doesn't change much, so I love small vignettes like this one that add interest and a seasonal aspect to the home!

For this project, I am tossing in a few pops of greens and browns to warm up this decor look!

MY PROCESS I'm a "keep it simple sweetie" kind of girl, so when I am assembling my tray, I tend to follow that method.

I gather up what I already have on hand that I think will fit the design idea I'm going for and place it all on my dining room table. Here, you can see I've pulled pumpkins, florals, candles, etc.

When changing out a tray like this I remove all old items and set them off to the side since I may want to incorporate some of those into the current piece. (I did that with my cream & sugar jars).

  1. Start with your base items (your larger pieces - flowers, candles, cream/sugar jars, etc.) Place on your tray, spacing these out evenly to give it balance.

  2. Next, add in your seasonal items (pumpkins, etc.)

  3. Finish with filler (these are the smaller items) greenery, pine cones, etc.

This item sits on my kitchen island, so as I am assembling it, I constantly turn the tray to make sure it looks pretty from all sides.

I also like to work in odd numbers, so you'll see that incorporated here...

3 candles, 5 flower buds, 1 truck, etc. Sometimes, however, I break my own rules like I did with the 2 cream & sugar jars. If I have pairs like that, I put them on different tiers & on opposite sides to space them out and create balance.

THAT'S SO PRETTY, WHERE DID YOU GET IT?: Your decor doesn't have be expensive to be beautiful - all of the items on this tray were under $5, and most I had on hand from previous years. I love Hobby Lobby and Michael's for seasonal decor because you can usually get items in season for 40-50% off.

  • Tiered Tray was a gift from a friend - it's from Mary & Martha

  • The cream & sugar jars - Grace's Teaware found at home goods

  • White peonies - Michael's

  • Pumpkins - Gray/White were from Hobby Lobby // Orange was from Target

  • Vintage Truck - Target Dollar Spot last year at Christmas

  • Pine cones - hobby lobby & my back yard

SIDE-NOTE: When Christmas season come around, I'll remove the handful pumpkins and replace with a few holiday pieces. In January, I'll remove the Christmas items and add a couple of winter-themed pieces. This saves time since I don't have to redo the entire tray. Instead, I just update a few items!

I hope this little peek into my seasonal decorating inspires you to create your own vignettes! If you do, post them on social media & tag me! I'd love to see them!

Happy Fall Y'all!
